PLANT TALK+  BLOG #3

Just saw a post on Facebook and embelished same....see below:

PUT ME IN CHARGE . . . says Jim Roost….

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

BACK TO PLANT TALK--SEEMS NOT TO DO MUCH GOOD TO BITCH AND MOAN ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT...WHEN ALL FINALLY GET TIRED OF THE B.S. THEN WE WILL DO SOMETING!!!

I'm going to cut and paste above to others!!  Good job, I will be your VP or you can be mine....cause you didn't go far enough....All foreign aid is cut off immediately!   Money made by the Post Office stays in the Post Office, till it is solvent and we only use the surplus that would accrue, same with Social Security after we remove about 3/4s of the recipients, term limits of two terms only on all congressional positions: Representatives and Senators...without pay like our forefathers...no longer career positions,  National Sales Tax on everything and do away with income taxes and their deductions....no exemptions for the sales tax...all surpluses to be applied to the Chinese loan tab.  Within 1 year make it mandatory to lay off 1 in 3 of all government employees to start, allow them a 2-yr allotment for retraining education(only allowed once in a person's life).  Make draft mandatory again for all... without any exemptions for a 2-yr hitch in the military that needs you and continue the educational benefits for those who have fulfilled these obligations.  AND THAT'S JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD!!!!  JT
Yep, this is all supposed to be about PLANTS and things.....well this is the "things part"!!

....OK, back to plants:  Just ordered 21 new nuts and ornamental plants from Warren County Nursery, McMinnville, Tennessee.

Just ordered a number (525) of bare-root nut trees and ornamental bushes and trees...ALL very affordable trees and plants that do well throughout the good ole USA....Most are Zone 3-9 types of plants that will do well throughout the United States in most states....they are all smaller starter type plants and trees that can be shipped easily via the U.S.Post Office for a minimal fee and have been selected to accent and brighten any home place!!  They have also been selected in the smaller sizes for the home owner or the small farm owner to be able to "train" these from the get-go!!

Dear teacherwin77358,

Q.  I just received my seedling orchid and I am concerned it will not live as the roots are completely dried out and dead. The plant looks very unhealthy. Do you have healthier plants of this variety to send out?

A.  First of all, one needs to remember that any reputable dealer worth his salt and selling most anything, would NEVER send a customer a product of inferior quality, since our most effective advertising is by word of mouth!!  My 1st and simplest fail-safe, as an entrepreneur, is to ask myself whether I would be interested in receiving the product (in this case an orchid)myself and, if I would be satisfied!  In the case of Starter Orchids…(see above)...we send these and most orchids out bare-root with the root material enclosed in a paper towel.  The roots are next to dry if not totally dry and probably need to be debrided upon arrival, then placed into a cup of water for 2-3 hours or sufficiently long enough for the roots to diffuse liquid from the cup into their plant root and top…making them once again turgid and ready to continue their life cycle processes.        At this point the plant may or may not have  (what looks like) much of a viable root system, but after placing in the soil mix the roots will begin to regenerate.   After the refurbishing of water/liquid into the Orchid one needs to plant the Orchid in a good Orchid soil mix and water in…keep moist, but NOT WET….we have used Miracle Gro Orchid Mix or something similar….since we plant so many and use so much every year, we now buy a smooth landscapers prep mix by the 40 yard dump truck load from a local soil mix company right here in Greater New Waverly, Texas!!!  We are lucky to have one so close….Don’t forget that whatever mix one uses, it need to provide a good anchor for the roots and heavy top of the plant(sometimes you need to use a plant stake with “bread tie” to hold the plant in place above ground), also it must hold some degree of moisture, but at the same time drain well.  “Wet feet” and “kindness” kills more Orchids than most any other things I can think of… DON’T KILL AN ORCHID WITH KINDNESS….as Orchids are one of the hardiest plants on Earth, one need not “hover” around the plant anxious that it will recover and flourish….time will usually take care of all.  Remember plants are different from animals in that they don’t show most changes readily and quickly….10-30 days is required to see the “turn-around” of most plant species!!   HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!

BLOG #1 OPENING

www.talbottnurseryandpoultry.com
FACEBOOK: TALBOTT NURSERY AND POULTRY

Well this is my first attempt at blogging here on Blogger.com!!  I have a daily what I call a "Blog" on Facebook(see link above)...and discuss questions asked of me on either of my selling sites on eBay or the above website or any sent in or "commented" on Facebook....My interest is in plants, as well as other things, but mostly PLANTS-after I retired from teaching Communications at the Community College level (Jr. College-for my era).   TALBOTT NURSERY AND POULTRY (see link above) was started as an online storefront on eBay in June of 2011, with six ORCHIDS like above, and they sold QUICKLY!!!  I bought 100 more from Hawaii and most sold in about six weeks....wasn't making a living by a long shot, but certainly was seeing a "nitch" that could, with a little massaging, be filled!!  Since that time I expanded to Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and Lantana for about six months; and then went to the Houston Nursery and Lnadscape Expo this past summer and have gone... what my mother would have called.... "HOG-WILD".... I have added most everything Plant-Wise that one finds at a Retail/Wholesale Garden Center.  LUCKY...YEP....got to say though that in my life I have been---both LUCKY AND A HARD WORKER!!!  Believe it may take both... and still life is a cyclical endeavor....SO... if you have any comments or plant questions...I may not know the exact answer right off the bat, but will find it for you....one might surmise that I am full of the "blarney-stone", but at the same time the one thing I have learned and relearned in my 66 years, is that one needs to be HONEST AND TRUTHFUL in talking with folks.  If you don't know an answer, say so....cause if you make one up....sooner or later ....you're gonna be found out!!  Well this is a start....didn't include GUN CONTROL, OBAMA-CARE, FOREIGN AFFAIRS, and GOD KNOWS I DIDN'T INCLUDE A DISCUSSION ABOUT CONGRESS....BUT maybe someone out there is tired of CNN and FOX NEWS...and simply wants to TALK PLANTS!!!!!!!!! OR we could discuss any of the problems of the day!!  Chuckle.....
